What is Legacy Loom for?
Keeping one person's voice notes in a form you can actually use. Voice notes pile up in a chat and get lost. Legacy Loom writes them down, files them, makes a cookbook from the recipes, and answers questions with a link to the exact second they said it.
Does it make things up?
It is built not to. Answers come only from passages retrieved from the recordings, each claim carries a citation you can play, and every quote is checked against the transcript. A sentence that quotes words never said is removed before you see it. When the archive has no answer, it says so.
Which AI models does it use?
Gemma for reading and answering (Gemma 3 4B on a laptop, Gemma 4 26B on the hosted demo), Whisper for transcription, BAAI bge-small for search, and TabPFN for the call planner. ElevenLabs reads answers aloud and transcribes on the hosted version.
Can it run without the internet?
The listening, filing and answering can. Install Ollama and Whisper and point it at a local database. The hosted demo uses cloud services so anyone can try it in a browser.
Who can see the recordings?
Whoever you share the link with can listen to the archive and ask it questions. Adding, rating and deleting there need the passcode. For anything personal, run it on your own machine.
Can I try it with my own voice?
Yes. Open the app and switch to Try it yourself at the top. Record yourself or upload any voice note, no passcode needed, and try everything: asking, citations, rating, the recipe book. It is kept apart from the real archive and clears itself after 24 hours.
Can it speak in their voice?
It can read answers aloud with a stock voice. ElevenLabs can clone a voice on paid plans, but that should only ever happen with the person's clear yes, so it is off by default.
What languages does it understand?
Whisper covers many languages, with uneven quality for some African languages. ElevenLabs Scribe covers more than 90. Titles, summaries and recipe cards are always written in English, and quotes stay in the language they were said in.
What is the call planner?
Rate each recording. After 8 or more ratings, TabPFN learns which days, hours and topics tend to bring out the stories you treasure, and suggests the best times to call this week and what to ask about.
What does it cost to run?
Locally, nothing beyond your electricity. The hosted version fits in free tiers: MongoDB Atlas M0, Google AI Studio, the ElevenLabs free plan and the Prior Labs API.
Is it open source?
Yes, MIT licensed. The code is on GitHub.
